a5c7b9f00b In Congo, Charles Travis is testing a communication system by laser with his former fiancée Dr. Karen Ross for the TraviCom network. Charles is the son of the millionaire R.B. Travis, who owns the TraviCom and is Karen's employer. Charles and his friend Jeffrey find the ruins of a lost city but are somehow killed. Meanwhile their camp is completely destroyed and then the camera is shut down by a creature. Travis discloses to Karen that his son was actually trying to find a rare blue diamond in Congo and sends her to look for him. Meanwhile, Dr. Peter Elliot and his assistant Richard are testing communication with the gorilla Amy and they decide to take her back to Congo since the animal seems to miss her birthplace. However they have funding issue but the Romanian philanthropist Herkermer Homolka offers to financially assist them. In the airport, Karen provides more money and joins the expedition. In the politically unstable Africa, they meet the experienced guide Captain Munro Kelly that bribes Captain Wanta to let them go. Further, he discloses that Homolka's real intention is to find the Lost City of Zinj. Then they embark in a plane in the beginning of a dangerous adventure in Congo.
When an expedition to the African Congo ends in disaster, a new team is assembled to find out what went wrong.
I just watched Congo on DVD.In most cases I love these kind of movies but this one is different. It made me write my first comment for a movie on IMDb. I was amazed how such a team of experienced filmmakers could come up with this moviea result. You can see there was a lot of money for this production but you can't make a good movie if you don't have a good script. Anda producer Frank Marshall gave us plenty of great movies to watch; he never should have tried to become another Spielberg. This one shows how hard it is to make a good movie, maybe you've got all the ingredients but if you can't cook stay out of the kitchen. If Can make a suggestion don't spend your money on this one. If you want to see it watch it on television first and make up your own mind.
Terrible little would-be action thriller that bores very quickly. Michael Crichton's over-rated novel comes to life, barely, in this unintentionally funny mess. Big-time businessman Joe Don Baker sends his son (Bruce Campbell) into the titled area to find diamonds that are literally all over the ground. However something happens to Campbell and a search party led by his on-again-off-again wife (Laura Linney) is sent in to try and find out what happened. Those in the search party include Dylan Walsh, Ernie Hudson, Tim Curry and a female ape who uses sign language and a computer-generated voice to talk (I am serious). A really stupid film that is never too interesting and is overall a sub-par production from top to bottom for the most part. 2 stars out of 5.
The result is not a movie that is very good, exactly, but it's entertaining and funny.
